Rubbermaid is an American company created in 1920, it is an American manufacturer and distributor of household items. It is a subsidiary of Newell Brands. It is known for producing food storage containers, trash cans, garden sheds, step stools, chairs and stools, cabinets, shelves, laundry baskets, changing tables, and other household items.
Wooster Rubber Company was founded in 1920 in Wooster, Ohio, by nine businessmen. Originally, the company manufactured rubber balloons. James R. Caldwell and his wife patented their blue rubber dustpan in 1933. They named their line of kitchen items Rubbermaid. In 1934, Ebert saw Rubbermaid products in a Department Store in New England and believed that such products could help Wooster Rubber Company, which was struggling at the time. The two companies merged in July 1934. Still named Wooster Rubber Company, the new group began producing rubber household products under the brand name Rubbermaid. Rubbermaid was purchased in 1999 by Newell for 6 billion dollars. Newell then changed its name to Newell Rubbermaid Inc.
